How do we work together?
There isn’t one “right” way to communicate, nor one “right” way to coach. Each client’s needs are unique. How is your voice working for you?
Together we’ll discover what’s getting in the way, then choose the techniques that best support your goals. My work is grounded not only in decades of teaching, but in a lifetime of standing in front of audiences.
I know the joy of communicating freely, the disappointment of falling short, and the empowerment of reclaiming your voice. Together, we can find practical ways of working that feel natural. Each client’s journey is different.
I work with clients worldwide via Zoom, and also in person from my Berkeley, CA office (on the Berkeley/Oakland border).
Where do we begin?
Voice is the epicenter of our communication with the world, and for most clients, this is where we start. You’ll learn practical vocal techniques beginning with how to breathe for speaking, expanding into resonance and tonal range. Technique is never an end in itself, however. As your voice becomes freer, your communication naturally becomes more confident, and connected.
Whether you’re preparing for a presentation, developing your business, recording in the studio, returning to your voice after illness (or in fact a lifetime!) or simply wanting your communication to reflect who you are today, our work is always shaped around your goals. The aim isn’t to give you a new voice. It’s to make your own voice fully available to you.
Every Journey is Different
… the results were absolutely miraculous. For the first time in my life, I can send my voice out with clarity that does not impact my throat. I can add volume and it doesn’t hurt…. Most of the time when I see healers I just take their word for it that I am improving, but I don’t really see the results. This time the results are absolutely life-changing. If I could give more stars, I would!
Working with SJ was honestly life-changing for me! I’m an entrepreneur, and I was never really comfortable talking in front of big groups. What I didn’t realize was how much emotional stuff was tied up in not using my voice. SJ showed me how to get into my body, use my breath, and feel grounded when I speak. After hormone treatment changed my voice, I became much more self-conscious about speaking and singing. Working with SJ helped me find confidence in my voice again, but it also transformed how I communicate in my plumbing business. I learned to speak more clearly, set better boundaries, and express myself with confidence. What made the biggest difference was how deeply listened to and accepted I felt. SJ helped me trust my own voice again, and that has changed not only how I communicate with customers and employees, but also how I show up in my personal life.
